J.A. Scott is a Los Angeles–based picture editor whose work spans high-profile original series, feature films, and documentary storytelling. Raised in Charles Town, West Virginia, Scott headed west with a passion for television, cinematic storytelling, and a determination to build a career in entertainment.
Over the course of a career spanning major studios and networks, Scott has edited scripted series for Netflix, Apple TV+, CBS, NBCUniversal, and Paramount+. Credits include globally recognized productions such as Ted Lasso, Star Trek: Discovery, Ransom Canyon, and Limitless, among many others. With an extensive background in visual effects editorial, Scott brings a deep understanding of how visual effects integrate with performance, pacing, and story. That experience informs an editorial approach that anticipates VFX needs early, shapes sequences with clarity, and fosters seamless collaboration across editorial, visual effects, and post-production teams.
Early in the career, Scott worked at a leading creative marketing agency, editing behind-the-scenes documentaries for blockbuster franchises including The Twilight Saga. Scott also wrote and edited trailers for Paramount’s Star Trek home entertainment releases, combining a lifelong fascination with science fiction and space exploration. That passion later led to a collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, editing documentaries that explored the history and future of space exploration.
Scott is a member of both the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700), and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a Film and Television emphasis from California State University, Los Angeles.
When not in an edit bay or on a production schedule, Scott works from a home office in Los Angeles. Long-time rescue pit bull Benny remains an ever-present companion, keeping life grounded, calm, and occasionally serving as a reminder to step away from the timeline. Scott is a passionate advocate for animal rescue and believes that great storytelling, much like great editing, is ultimately about empathy, rhythm, and knowing exactly when to cut.
